Chidi Di Ambar Wal Udaan - Show

Chidi Di Ambar Wal Udaan (The Bird’s Flight Towards the Sky) is a moving Punjabi stage play that beautifully captures the spirit of freedom, womanhood, and resilience. The play was directed by Anita Savdeesh and presented under the banner of Rangmanch Punjabi Theatre, in association with the Ghader Party Centenary Celebration Committee. It was performed on October 10, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Venue 126, 7536–130 Street, Surrey, Vancouver, BC. The event was part of the centennial celebrations honoring the Ghader Party’s contribution to freedom and Punjabi cultural identity.

Through intense performances and minimalist stagecraft, these plays strike a deep emotional chord with audiences, encouraging reflection on truth (Jooth) and the spirit of labor and sacrifice (Kirti).

The production was presented by Rangmanch Punjabi Theatre and staged on April 17, 2015, at the North Delta Secondary Theatre, British Columbia. Roojas Films was proud to support the organization and promotion of a special cultural event held at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Surrey Campus, where the renowned Sufi singer Sain Zahoor Ahmed was honoured for his exceptional contribution to music and spirituality. The event was hosted by KPU Modern Languages and featured an insightful conversation between Sain Zahoor and Dr. Almas Zakiuddin, from the Department of Asian Studies.

Held on Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 PM, in the Conference Centre, Cedar Building, this exclusive event offered audiences an intimate glimpse into the life and philosophy of one of Pakistan’s most celebrated Sufi artists. Through captivating dialogue and soulful discussion, the evening celebrated the universal language of music, faith, and cultural connection.

Komagata Maru

Performing the Komagata Maru: Theatre and the Work of Memory was a powerful bilingual stage production that brought one of the most defining historical moments in Canadian and South Asian history to life. The play revisited the 1914 Komagata Maru incident — when a ship carrying over 350 South Asian immigrants was denied entry into Canada — transforming historical memory into a living, emotional theatrical experience. Through drama, dialogue, and movement, the performance explored the questions: Why do we remember? and How does theatre create a new archive of the past?

This collaborative project was a joint effort between the UBC Department of Theatre and Film and Rangmanch Punjabi Theatre, blending academic insight with artistic expression. It featured selections from the works of Sadhu Binning, Sukhwant Hundal, Sharon Pollock, and Ajmer Rode, and was performed in both Punjabi and English. The production was staged at the Frederic Wood Theatre, UBC West Point Grey Campus, and later at the Main Stage, Surrey Arts Centre in May 2014.
